WHY

Coaching & Mentoring Sessions

The use of Leadership Coaches and Mentors has long been a tool used by the private sector organizations to develop leaders to their full potential.  Less commonly used in the Fire Service, coaches can help you set and reach goals, creatively solve problems, identify blind spots and move your team forward.  Mentorship is more common in Fire and Emergency services, but is often informal and sometimes haphazard.  With Brave Fire Leader, our mentors are well-respected and experienced Fire Chiefs who enjoy helping you plan a path for your career and get over bumps along the way.

Both methods use conversation and guided discovery to focus on you and your success.  The sessions are completely confidential.  Another bonus of experiencing coaching and mentoring is that you are part of a demonstration of both styles.  They are a model for you to follow as you coach and mentor others who come up with or after you.

Students typically tell us that the coaching and mentoring is one of the best parts of this experience.  We are fortunate to have a great team who love the Fire Service and are happy to make their rates for this program affordable in order to help.

Return on investment is key here.  An article in Public Personnel Management, a study was reported comparing training alone to coaching combined with training. Training alone increased performance by 22.4% while training plus coaching increased performance by 88%.  If you want this training to be even more impactful for you, consider adding coaching and mentoring.

What is Coaching?

Coaching is a professional relationship that helps people produce extraordinary results in their lives, careers, businesses or organizations, helping them to bridge the gap between where they are now and where they want to be.

Coaches partner with their clients to design the life they want, bring out their clients’ own brilliance and resources so that they can achieve excellence and create purposeful, extraordinary lives.

By creating clarity, coaching moves the client into action, accelerating their progress by providing greater focus and awareness of all the possibilities which exist to create fulfilling lives.

What is Mentoring?

Mentoring is to support and encourage people to manage their own learning in order that they may maximize their potential, develop their skills, improve their performance and become the person they want to be.

A mentor is a guide who can help the mentee to find the right direction and who can help them to develop solutions to career issues. Mentors rely upon having had similar experiences to gain an empathy with the mentee and an understanding of their issues. Mentoring provides the mentee with an opportunity to think about career options and progress.
